1989 - Last Steam-driven RMAS Vessel Pays-off
May. The last Steam driven vessel in the RMAS in this country is paid off. YC484 was a Dumb class mooring and salvage vessel built at Bolsons shipyard in Poole in 1960. Only three were built. She was 109ft in length by 28ft broad with a gross tonnage of 225 tons. When built her crew was: a Mate in charge , an engineer, 15 crew and two divers. She performed much of the mooring work in Portsmouth harbour, Langstone, Hythe, Marchwood and at Hamworthy in Poole. She was superseded by a new diesel electric mooring vessel named Moorhen.
