1976 - Formation of Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service

1st October. In 1959 it was decided that all yard craft previously under the control of various dockyard, victualling, naval stores and armaments departments should be brought under one authority that became known as Port Auxiliary Service (PAS). This was carried a stage further when on October 1st other separate water borne services such as ocean tugs, Admiralty cable ships, and trial vessels, etc. were all brought together under the title of Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service (RMAS)
