1953 - Coronation Fleet Review
15th June. Coronation Review at Spithead by HM Queen Elizabeth II. There were 14 miles of ships moored for the Review and over 300 aircraft from the Fleet Air Arm flew in formation past their Queen. At 10-30 pm the Queen pressed a golden key and simultaneously illuminated over two hundred ships. The grand finale was the firework display that started with a single rocket fired by the Queen roaring into the sky from HMS Vanguard. The final salvo of the display was by 2500 rockets that lit the night sky and surrounding beaches from where, it was estimated, over one million people had gathered to watch.
