1940 - Two Major Fires in Dockyard
5 December 1940 – 2 major fires in Dockyard, one at South Railway Jetty. The other in No. 8 Dock badly damaged ex-US destroyer HMS “Cameron”, which was declared a loss; she was stripped of her armament and the hull used as a test bed for structural experiments being finally scrapped at the end of the war.
Major fires were also raging at HMS “Vernon” and Royal Clarence Yard.
