1940 - Launch of SIRIUS

18th September. The Anti-aircraft cruiser Sirius was launched from No. 5 slipway of the Dockyard. It was a period of anxiety for the Dockyard Management as an air raid during the moment of launch would have been disastrous. She was badly damage from bomb near misses while fitting out. She was laid down 6th April 1938 and completed for service 6th May 1942; other war work slowed her completion.

When she was completed she became the adopted ship of the City of Portsmouth.
