1926 - Launch of SUFFOLK
16th February. The cruiser HMS Suffolk was launched from the Dockyard by Marchioness of Bristol. She was the first of the post-war cruisers to be laid down and was a result of the 1922 Washington Treaty which specified that cruisers should not exceed 10.000 tons displacement. She had a very active part in the Second World War when she was severely damaged by German bombing during the Norwegian campaign . The end of the war saw her operating with the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean. She was broken up at Cashmore’s, Newport, where she arrived on 24th June 1948.
