1909 - Launch of NEPTUNE
30th September. The improved Dreadnought HMS Neptune was launched from No 5 Slipway by the Duchess of Albany. Neptune was a single class ship, was the first British battleship to mount a superimposed turret and was the first Dreadnought capable of training all its big guns on either beam. She was laid down 19th Jan 1909 and completed Jan 1911 for special service.
Became Flagship, C-in-C Home Fleet on 11th May 1911, and 1st BS. Served in the Grand Fleet throughout the war and was present at Jutland, (no casualties). Placed in reserve 1919 and finally discarded under the terms of the Washington Treaty 1922.
