1805 - Nelson & Trafalgar

14th September. Admiral Lord Nelson embarked from the beach near Spur Redoubt and sailed to battle off Cape Trafalgar aboard HMS “Victory”, where he was mortally wounded by a sharpshooter’s musket ball on 21st October. This battle ended any serious threat from the French Navy for the rest of the war. Battle scarred “Victory”, with Admiral Nelsons body preserved in a cask filled with spirits of wine arrived back at Spithead

4th December. One of HMS “Victory’s” anchors was placed on a memorial at Clarence Pier.
