2009 - HMS DARING Enters Service
28th January. HMS Daring the first of the Royal Navy’s new Type 45 destroyers entered Portsmouth Naval Base at 1320. Large crowds had gathered to see her as she passed the Hot Walls and Round Tower at Old Portsmouth.
She berthed alongside the Victory Jetty (originally known as Pitch House Jetty). Large crowds gathered on South Railway Jetty from the Naval Base and BVT workers, who had built the bow section, mast and funnel in the new shipbuilding complex, joined them at 12 dock. DARING had arrived the previous evening but anchored east of the Mother Bank at Spithead.
