1857 - Queen Inspects Troops for India

4th August. (Troopers Jetty.) Queen Victoria inspected in the Dockyard a large number of troops about to embark for India.

At this time the jetty now known as South Railway Jetty was where the Indian Troopships berthed to take on troops bound for India and the jetty was known as Troopers Jetty.

The Indian Mutiny took place 1857-8.
