1787 - Short Row

Short Row (1786-87), Georgian houses built for Dockyard officers and situated in the apex of the trace of the old de Gomme fortifications at what was known as Bonfire Corner. They are said to have been Thomas Telford first design essay and were principally designed to accommodate the Surgeon, Master Ropemaker, Clerk of the Ropeyard, and the Boatswain. An addition building was added in mid 1880’s; by then the occupanst were the Master Rigger, Second Constructor, Boatswain, staff Surgeon and the Fleet Surgeon.
