DISCOVERY OF THE STEAM BASIN CAISSON

 

Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historical Society publication No.2 (1987) A4 non-glossy paperback B/W plans and sketches £1.00 (£1.50) An account of the discovery during road repairs undertaken in 1984, of the original caisson to No.2 Basin, (the Steam Basin), in Portsmouth Dockyard. The caisson had been buried in-situ when a new, larger entrance to the basin was constructed in 1876.

The record of activities is brought up to 1997 and covers Dockyard involvement during the operation for the recovery of the Falkland Islands in 1982.
